Building and Properties

The Buildings and Properties Office supports parishes, administrative offices and other agencies of the diocese with expertise, information and services related to facilities and real estate. It assists in the purchase, sale and lease of properties. It also helps with planning, design, construction of facilities and energy projects, as well as occupancy and operation of facilities and environmental compliance.

The Building and Properties Office:

  • directs and inspects new construction, renovation and repair work;
  • oversees construction sites and tracks progress of building projects;
  • develops lists of approved architects, engineers and contractors, and evaluates performance for future consideration;
  • works with pastors and diocesan legal counsel in writing lease agreements for unused facilities;
  • assists in the selection of sites for new parishes;
  • inspects diocesan properties and oversees environmental compliance and abatement programs;
  • identifies scope of environmental work, including air monitoring, bid packaging, bid evaluation and contract awards;
  • helps with issues of health and safety and assists in resolving insurance claims;
  • performs detailed assessments for architectural, electrical, plumbing and mechanical maintenance and repair of diocesan buildings and other assets;
  • coordinates the analysis and tests necessary for the design, development and implementation of the procedures needed to resolve critical facility emergencies;
  • plans, coordinates and oversees activities of energy-based projects by conducting assessments and evaluations with Diocesan partnering organizations.
