"Jesus is 'the missionary of the Father': each Christian is his witness. Let his voice proclaim the Gospel through us as we bring the good news of salvation to the ends of the earth."
U.S. Bishops Pastoral Statement on World Mission,
To the Ends of the Earth, #75

               Peru Missions

The people of the Diocese of Jefferson City have long taken seriously their call to the universal mission of the Church. In 1962, at the request of Pope John XXIII, entered into a mission relationship with three parishes in Peru: Nasca, Capachica, and Marcona. The diocese accepted full responsibility for the pastoral care of some 100,000 Peruvians in these three areas. This commitment includes the ministry of missionary priests and sisters, financial support of the mission parishes, and cooperation in various social and economic assistance programs. Currently The Diocese of Jefferson City provides financial support for the ministries of the dioceses of Ica and Puno, in Peru.

The primary role of the Mission Office is to secure funding for our Peruvian missions. It designs and coordinates an annual diocesan collection in July for the Peru missions, publishes a monthly newsletter for donors, assists in parish fund raising activities, and directs appeals for special projects. The Mission Office is responsible for mission education: providing instructional resources, speakers, and advocacy information to the parishes and others. The office also coordinates the Mission Cooperative Plan.
